Manali-Batal-Chandratal-Zanskar via Phirtse &Shingola Passes-Darcha-Manali.

The  circular trek commences from the tiny hamlet of Batal in the lahaul-spiti valley.Situated at the base of the might kunzam-La,Batal is the starting point for the Chandra-Tal ( Lake of Moon ) is the first night camp.In this trek we pass two major pass via Zanskar , the Phirtse La and the Shingo La two of the few high Himalayan Passes..

 Itinerary:

Arrival at manali, meet and greet with our representatives and transfer in to hotel. In the evening explore the mall road Manali. Overnight stay in hotel or cottage.

1st Day : Manali to Batal (3,960 mtrs ) : After freshen, we proceed drive to Batal from manali across the Rohatang Pass via the Chandra river valley. It  takes 6 hours to Batal by road. Camp overnight at Batal.

2nd Day : Batal to Chandratal : Next we strat trek to lake of moon  ( Chandratal ) A majestic serene lake surrounding by mighty Himalayan peaks.  It  is  a 12 km trek from Batal. During the spiring the camping site on the bank of this enchanting lake. Druing spiring time, it is carpeted with  hundreds of wild alpine flowers.Camp overnight at chandratal.

3rd  Day : Chandratal to  Tokpo Gongma (4,320 mtrs ) :  Next day early in the morning, after freshen , we  start trek to Tokpo Gongma which is 12 km from chandratal.Cmap overnight little  away from the stream.

4th Day:Tokpo Gongma to Tokpo Yongma (4,640 mtrs ) : Next day , we start trek to next destination, which is 10 km from the Tokpo.  In this trek we cross the streams, after six hours walk brings  to another barren camping site surrounded by rocky hills. Camp overnight here.

5th Day : Topko Yongma to Baralacha-La (4,833 mtrs ) : Next day , we start trek early in the morning to Baralacha –la which is 4,830 mtrs  heigh .Baralacha means summit with cross roads. Roads from spiti ,Ladakh, Zanskar and  Lahaul Meet here .Camp overnight at Suraj tal, the source of the river  Bhaga

6th Day : Baralacha –La to Seraikelang : Next day,we start trek to Seraikelang. The trail countinues to wind upwards  Seraikelang a quaint little oasis amongst barren country. Camp overnight here.

7th Day : Seraikelang to Debni ( 4,500 mtrs ) : Next day after having breakfast early in the morning, we start trek to next palce Debni. The trail now narrow down and a river crossing is made. We cross the  pass The Phirtse La , the highest pass of the whole trek.  The trail now winds upward on the right bank of the Lingti-Chu river and after going up and down a couple of hills. Camp overnight at Debni.

8th Day : Debni to Chumikmarpo : Next day after freshen, we start  trek to Chumikmarpo . we start trek early in the morning due to cross the Kamirup stream .Once we pass the stream, the next crossing occurs only mid –day at kyonon. This oringinates from the Phirtse-La glacier..Camp overnight at chumikmarpo.

9th Day :Chumikamrpo to Shingsen : Next we start trek to Shingsen. Here is also we pass the  Phirtse-La pass. Its is advised  because of the snow turning  soft on this pass. A nice trail winds its way up to the pass on which a tiny glacier  is located to the left. Once we pass the glacier, the trail leads downwards towards the camp site .Camp overnight at Shingsen.

10th Day : Shingsen to Teta : Next day ,we start trek to teta. After crossing a small village over  Shangse river, the trail goes evenly on the left bank towards the tiny hamlet of Teta. Camp overnight at Teta .

11th Day : Teta to Phuktal Gompa to Teta (3,950 mtrs ) : Next day ,after breakfast we visit to Phuktal Gompa  Thre trail winde upwards for about three hours and the Gompa reached. This monastery belongs to the Gylugpa sect of the monks and 70 of them reside here.Over the gompa there is tiny spring which is said to have healing properties and whose level never changes. There is stone tablet that is said to have been left by a Hungarian explorer who spent some time in Phuktal around 1826 A.D. In the evening we back to base camp at Teta.

12th Day : Teta to Kargiakh (4,060 mtrs ) : Next day we start early in the morning to next place Kargiakh which long trek from Teta. Kargiakh is the last village of the  Zanskar region after which lahaul is entered. Kargiakh has numerous Mani walls, Stupas and here the  best Yoghurt (curd ) is available in whole of Zanskar.Camp overnight at little before the tiny village.

13th Day ; Kargiakh to Lakhong : Next day , after freshen we start walk to next place Lakhong. Lakhong lies at the base of the 5,090 mtrs high Shingo-La. Camp overnight at Lakhong.

14th Day: Lakhong to Chumiknakpo (4,060 mtrs ) : Next day, after having breakfast, we proceed to next place chumiknakpo. Arrival here  another equality steep descent later, the camp site of chumiknakpo is reached . Watch for wild horses in the upper valley. Camp overnight at  here.

15th Day: Chumiknakpo toZankarsumdo : Next day we start trekt o zankarsumdo. The trail proceed over rugged,barren countryside and it is a fairly easy walk. A river crossing is involved and short whicle later the campsite of Zanskar sumdo appears. Camp overnight here.

16th Day: Zankarsumdo to  Darcha :Next day we proceed to darcha . Slowly the mountain desert gives way to craggly trees and patches of shrubs. On the way tow icy rivers have to be forded, so it is advisable to leave Zankarsumdo. A long day’s walk and the trail reaches to Darcha on the bank of the Bhaga river. From here we transfer by transport  whatever is available  to Keylong and manali.

Departure :  Manali  to DelhiNext morning, after  having  breakfast,  explore the local market. In the afternoon .Departure by Volvo Ac bus To your sweet home with memorable moments of this trek.
