Best time: June to sept. : The Landscape of Ladakh has been compared to the bleak surface of the moon.  But its ecosystem is remarkably vital. Research over the last two decades hav proved that Ladakh is the last refuge for the snow leopard and related prey species in India. The good news s that some trails take the wildlife enthusiast close to the wildlife. The trail takes you through a stretch remote even by lofty Ladakhi standards. Its is an excellent place for viewing wildlife. With not less than sixty river crossing, the trek also provides moments of the great adventure.

Day.01)  Reach Padum by road from Kargil or on the trail from Darcha. A short drive on a drit track takes you to zangla, the erstwhile capital of Zanskar,thirty-five kilometres away from the headquarters. The Trial climbes through the village to the right bank of the Zangla stream. In around five hours you reach the campsite of Zumlung Sumdo(12,400ft/3,780m)

Day.02) The climb begins just after the confluence on the left of the valley, a three hours climb takes you on a gradual slope till the trail meets the zumling stream The trail reaches the campsite at Taaktok Sumdo (13,900 ft/4,237 m) The hill across the side stream is an excellent spot for viewing the ibex Another animal not very difficult to sight is the blue sheep.

Day.03)  Follow the Zumling Downstream after leaving camp. The hills on either side are coverd with willow; that makes it difficult to move on the trail, forcing to cross the river occasionally Cross it to reach the campsite of Tilut Sumdo (12,500 ft/ 3,810 m) on ledge just above the camp. This day the trek is through a gorge and you habe to look straight up to see the sky.

Day.4-5) Follow the Khurna up stream on its right bank. The trail shifts to the left bak with forty –five minutes as the river comes down to hit against the mountain and swerves left. The corssing is very difficult. The trail climbs steeply through the gorge and its,s a bit of a scramble when it disappears. Take the right stream up for three hours to reach the campsite. Rest the next day; explore the meadows for ibex and bharal.

Day.6 ) leave the campsite early to cross the Zalung Karpo la later in the morning. The trail climbs up the valley as it curves right and reaches the confluence of the streams descending from the rubarung and Zalung Karps Passes. The ascent leads to the Zalung Karpo la( 21,00 ft/6,400 m) and beyond that across the Indus, are the ladakh range and Eastern Karakorams. Behind you are Nun and Kun Climbing down a broad valley, a steep descent takes you to the campsite on Langtang Chu (14,200 ft/4,328m0

Day.07) Leave the campsite after breakfast and hour  you rach a mane wall  where the trail bifurcates.  Take the one going up, climbing steepy to the west ridge of the kang Yurze with carrns and flags that mark the Konka Wangpo La at (16,667 ft/ 5,080 m) Climbing andcrossing the streams you reach Nimaling meadow at the base of the Kangmaru La. This is one of the laregest high altitude pastures in Ladakh
